TAMPA, Fla.- The #24th ranked Eagles take game one from the Spartans. Sophomore Richard Bleier (Davie, Fla.) improved his record to 4-1 after 5.2 innings pitched with six strikeouts. Spartan starting pitcher Ross Jackson received the loss (4-3). The Eagles took advantage of five Spartan errors to earn their 21st victory, 10-4. The Eagles struck first in the second after two Spartan errors to score four. Junior Vinnie Scarduzio (Jupiter, Fla.) singled through the right side of the infield to score Junior Ozzie Borrell (Hialeah, Fla.). Then Sophomore Casey Coleman (Cape Coral, Fla.) singled down the right field line to score Vinnie Scarduzio, and Junior Jason Peacock (Bartow, Fla.). After Senior Derek Mollica (Boca Raton, Fla.) reached on an error by the third baseman, Junior Paul Fibbe (Jacksonville, Fla.) lined a singled to center field, scoring Senior Derek Mollica (Boca Raton, Fla.) The Spartans were scoreless until they put up two runs in the bottom of the fifth to bring the score to 5-3. The Eagles capitalize on two Spartan errors in the seventh to score four more. Junior Paul Fibbe (Jacksonville, Fla.) singled to center to score Coleman and Peacock, and Scarduzio scored on an error by the center fielder. The next batter Sophomore Josh Upchurch (Cape Coral, Fla.) singled through the right side to score Fibbe. That proved to be enough for the Eagles. Tampa native Junior J.J Crumbley (Tampa, Fla.) came in to pitch 3.1 scoreless innings to secure the Eagles a win in game one, 10-4. The Eagles will be back in action tomorrow at 1:00 pm March 24, 2007 for games two, and three in Tampa, Fla.
