Eagles Combine for Five Homeruns to Win Eighth Straight

Saint Leo, Fla– The FGCU baseball team improves their win streak to eight after combining for five homeruns to take Saint Leo 7-4. The Eagles improve to 31-12 and the Saints fell to 24-20. The game remained scoreless until the Eagles drove in three runs in the third, as an RBI double by Sophomore Casey Coleman (Cape Coral, Fla.) was followed by a two-run homerun by Sophomore Josh Upchurch (Cape Coral, Fla.) . The Lions got one run back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Senior Eric Spicer (Jacksonville, Fla.). The Eagles increased their lead by five with another solo homerun by Junior Jason Peacock (Bartow, Fla.) in the fourth, and a pair of solo shots in the sixth by Junior Vinnie Scarduzio (Jupiter, Fla.) and Sophomore Casey Coleman to give the Eagles a 6-1 lead. The Lions cut the lead in half with a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth. The Eagles answered back in the seventh as Junior Stephen Rassel (Lake City, Fla.) hit his second homerun of the season to left center. Freshman Pete Woodworth(St.Petersburg, Fla.)threw six innings, allowing only three runs with five strikeouts to improve his record to 4-1. Upchurch was 1-for-4 with a two run homerun. Rassel was 2-for-5 with a solo homerun. Mollica was 2-for-4. Scarduzio was 1-for-3 with a solo homerun. Peacock was 1-for-3 with two runs scored, and a solo homerun. Coleman was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and a solo homerun. The Eagles will travel to Boca Raton, Florida to face the Fighting Knights of Lynn University for a three game series Friday April 20th at 3:00 pm, and for a doubleheader Saturday April 21st at 12:00 pm.
