FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU Eagles have been selected by NCAA Division II Baseball Committee to participate in the 2007 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship.

The 39-15 FGCU baseball team was selected to the 2007 NCAA Tournament. The Eagles, a member of the South Region, will travel to Tampa, Fla., to compete in the six team NCAA South Region bracket. The regionals will comprise of six teams competing in double-elimination tournaments. Eight regional competitions will be played May 17-20, at eight on-campus sites. Regional champions will advance to the double-elimination championship finals May 25 to June 1 at Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery, Alabama, which will be hosted by Valdosta State University and the city of Montgomery.

The Six South Region qualifiers are listed below:

1. Tampa 45-9

2. Tusculum 48-12

3. Carson-Newman 36-18

4. Florida Gulf Coast 39-15

5. Florida Southern 40-14

6. Stillman 26-17

This will be the Eagles second consecutive NCAA Division II Championship appearance. The Eagles matched their regular season win record with 39 wins. FGCU finished the season batting over .335 as a team with 112 doubles 29 triples, 35 homeruns and a team ERA of 3.37 with 466 strikeouts.

The Eagles drew the #4 seed and will face #3 Carson-Newman (36-18) at 7:00 pm in the opening round of the tournament. Tickets can be purchased at the gate and will be sold for $10 (adults) and $5 (Students with ID/Senior Citizens.
