Baseball Moves to 38-14 With 9-6 Win at Albany State

ALBANY, Ga., - The FGCU baseball team won its sixth straight with a 9-6 win over Albany State on Wednesday night. The Eagles improve to 38-14 while the Golden Rams fall to 37-20.

The Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Josh Upchurch (Cape Coral, Fla.) led off the game with a single and later scored on a double by Ozzie Borrell (Hialeah, Fla.). The Eagles took a 4-1 lead in the fourth with a two-out rally that started with Paul Fibbe getting hit by a pitch. After a walk, Stephen Rassel (Lakeland, Fla.) doubled to score a pair of runs.

The Eagles took a commanding 9-2 lead with a five run sixth. Borrell hit a bases loaded triple and scored on a sacrifice fly by Graig Smith (Venice, Fla.) to cap the scoring for FGCU. Luis Pardo (Miami) came in for a three inning save and fanned eight batters. Richard Bleier (Davie, Fla.) picked up the win to improve to 8-2. Borrell went 3-for-5 with four RBI and a pair of runs scored. Smith went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI in the game.

The Eagles and Golden Rams will be back in action again tomorrow at noon.
