Former FGCU pitcher Casey Coleman has been called up by the Class A Peoria Chiefs to start Monday night's game against Fort Wayne. Coleman was 1-1 with the Boise Hawks of the Northwest League before being promoted to the Cubs Class A team. The Chiefs are managed by legendary Chicago Cubs Hall of Famer Ryne Sanberg. The Chiefs are currently atop the Midwest League standings in the second half of the season.

Three former baseball players made their pro debuts last month. Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Year Richard Bleier, A-Sun Player of the Year Jason Peacock and Casey Coleman joined a growing list of FGCU baseball players to continue their careers on the pro level.

Florida Gulf Coast clinched the third Atlantic Sun team title of its inaugural year in the conference by sweeping ETSU on the baseball diamond. Pete Woodworth won the deciding game while Vinnie Scarduzio carried the offense in earning the Pitcher and Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.

FGCU senior Jason Peacock (Bartow, Fla.) was named playoff-MVP in the Florida Collegiate Summer League after leading the Leesburg Lightning to a 6-0 win in the championship game. Peacock went 3-for-4 in the championship game with three RBI.
