FORT MYERS, Fla., - The Florida Gulf Coast University baseball team will host the Southeastern University Fire this weekend to start off the Eagles inaugural season into Division I. FGCU, who was picked to finish 10th in the A-Sun Conference, opens with Southeastern University who already has 12 games under their belt.

Southeastern has won the last three NCCAA II National Champions and finished 48-17 last year with a 20-1 record in the South Region Florida Sun Conference. The Fire evened their record on Tuesday with a 5-4, 11 inning win over Edward Waters.

The Eagles return 15 letterwinners from last season’s 40-17 team that advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive year. Along with the returners, the Eagles welcome 19 newcomers. Of the returners, FGCU includes eight starters from a year ago as well as five of the top seven pitchers. The Eagles will open the season with left-handed Richard Bleier (Davie, Fla.) receiving the nod on the mound. Casey Coleman (Cape Coral, Fla.) and Richie Erath (Lake Worth, Fla.) are expected to start Saturday’s double-header. All three games will be broadcast live on ASun.TV. Individual games can be purchased for $5.95 while a monthly pass can be purchased for $9.95.
