Baseball Hosts UNF in First A-Sun Series

FORT MYERS, Fla., - The FGCU baseball team opens up Atlantic Sun Conference play tomorrow when they host UNF in a three-game series. The series opens up at 1:00 pm in Swanson Stadium with a doubleheader.

The Ospreys come in with a 2-1 record after taking the opening weekend series against then #23 Mississippi State. The Ospreys come in to the series batting .370 as a team and are led by A-Sun player of the week Travis Martin who is batting .600 with seven RBI.

UNF is expected to start Ty Prior, Jon Atteo and Jonathan Turner on the mound. Prior is the only starter to factor in a decision in last weekend’s series.

The Eagles are riding a four-game winning streak to start the year. FGCU comes in with the top pitching staff in the conference. FGCU has allowed just four runs and sports a 0.75 ERA as the staff has racked up 44 strikeouts to just eight walks. Richard Bleier (Davie, Fla.) anchors the rotation and did not allow an earned run in his first start, going 6.0 innings with seven strikeouts. Casey Coleman (Cape Coral) also had a strong outing in his first start also tossing 6.0 innings while fanning eight batters without issuing a free pass. FGCU’s other weekend starter is expected to be Richie Erath (Lakeland, Fla.) who made his debut by going 4.0 innings without surrendering a run and allowing just three hits.

The Eagles also possess one of the most dangerous lineups in the league with a .389 batting average. FGCU is coming off of a 13-run 18-hit performance at Florida International on Wednesday night. FGCU hit three homeruns in that game bringing their season total to a league-leading 10. FGCU has plated 49 runs in the first four games.
