Richard Bleier threw nine innings, and struck out five
KENNESAW, Ga. - Jason Peacock (Bartow, Fla.) helped spark a 7-1 victory over Kennesaw State by going 4-for-5 with a two run homerun in the first, while Richard Bleier (Davie, Fla.) picked up the win, going all nine with five strikeouts. The Eagles improve to 13-3 (6-1 A-Sun) with the win on Friday night at Stillwell Stadium, while the Owls dropped to 5-10 (2-2 A-Sun).
FGCU took a 2-0 lead in the first. Mikel Alvarez (West Palm Beach, Fla.) singled up the middle with one out. Two batters later Jason Peacock blasted his fourth homerun of the season to leftfield to the Eagles the early lead.
The Eagles would add to the lead in the third when Mikel Alvarez connected for a solo-homerun to right field to put the Eagles up 3-0.
The Eagles would put the Owls away in the eighth, putting up four runs. Senior Stephen Rassel (Lake City, Fla.) legged out a single to the third baseman to lead off the inning. Peacock singled to right, Ozzie Borrell (Hialeah, Fla.) doubled down the right field line to bring in Rassel, and the final blow came when senior Vinnie Scarduzio (Jupiter, Fla.) lined a bases loaded double to the left center gap, scoring Peacock, Borrell, and Bissell.
The only Owl run came in the ninth on a double play ball hit by Ric Bishop, scoring Jacob Robbins who recorded three of the four Owls hits.
Chad Jenkins (1-2) took the loss for the Owls, allowing six runs on 11 hits with seven strikeouts in seven-plus innings of work.
Richard Bleier (3-0) earned the win, shutting down the Owls until an unearned run scored in the ninth. Bleier gave up just four hits while striking out five Owls batters to earn his first complete game of the season.
The two teams will wrap up their series tomorrow with a doubleheader scheduled to start at 1:00pm at Stillwell Stadium.
