FORT MYERS, Fla., The A-Sun leading FGCU baseball team hosts Belmont for a three-game series beginning tomorrow at 4:00 pm at Swanson Stadium. The Eagles bring a five-game winning streak and 23-7 overall and 13-2 in league play. The Bruins are 8-18 overall and 5-10 in the A-Sun after dropping seven in a row.

The Eagles boast the top pitching staff in the conference with a collective ERA of 2.87. Richard Bleier and Pete Woodworth anchor the staff. Bleier has been nothing short of dominant in his junior season. The lefty has tossed 44.0 innings and has a league leading 1.43 ERA to go with a perfect 5-0 record. Woodworth has been equally impressive, posting a 4-1 mark overall in 42.2 innings of work. The sophomore brings in a 3.16 ERA while opponents are hitting just .232 with 37 strikeouts. Bleier is expected to start game one tomorrow while Woodworth will throw the second game. Freshman Richie Erath (2-0, 1.02 ERA) is expected to start the final game of the series.

In this first season in Division I, the FGCU offense has been just as productive as the pitching staff. The Eagles are batting .323 and are led by player of the year favorite Jason Peacock. The senior first baseman is the reining player of the week and is batting .477 with 33 RBI. Peacock ranks among the league leaders in nearly every category. Against conference opponents Peacock is hitting .560 and has a slugging percentage of .780. Four of the top eight batters in conference only games are Eagles. Josh Upchurch, Ozzie Borrell and Stephen Rassel are all hitting over .400 against A-Sun pitching.

Belmont lost four starters and 11 players from last season’s A-Sun runner up. The Bruins are led by one of the top dual threats in the league, Carlo Testa. Testa leads the team in innings pitched, strikeouts and wins while also batting .415 with 19 stolen bases. The Bruins also are expected to start Brian Kelley and Josh Moffitt during the weekend.

The series begins tomorrow at 4:00 pm with a doubleheader at Swanson Stadium. The series finale can be seen live on ASun.TV.
