Baseball Falls at Stetson
DeLAND, Fla., The Stetson Hatters evened their series with FGCU with a 7-4 win in game two of their Atlantic Sun series. The Hatters improve to 20-29 overall and 10-16 in the league while FGCU falls to 30-13 and 20-6.
The Hatters scored four runs in the second inning. The home team put together four hits around a pair of errors by the Eagles to take a 4-0 lead. They added a fifth run in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Brian Pruitt.
The Eagles cut the lead to two after a three run sixth. Ozzie Borrell (Hialeah, Fla.) reached on an error and moved to second on a single by Stephen Rassel (Lake City, Fla.). Vinnie Scarduzio (Jupiter, Fla.) singled to score two. Victor Rodriguez (Cape Coral, Fla.) singled to bring in Scarduzio, cutting the Hatter lead to 5-3.
A two-run homerun by Pruitt in the seventh extended the lead to 7-3. Borrell led off with a double and scored on a throwing error to cut the lead to 7-4, which would end up the final score.
Andy Mauldin picked up the win after going 5.2 innings for the Hatters. Casey Coleman (Cape Coral, Fla.) picked up the loss for the Eagles.
Ozzie Borrell and Stephen Rassel each went 2-4 for the Eagles while Vinnie Scarduzio was 2-3 with a run scored and a pair of RBI.
The series will conclude tomorrow at 1:00 pm at Melching Field.
