FORT MYERS, Fla., - The FGCU baseball team scored early and often in a 12-1 win over Florida International on Tuesday night. The Eagles improve to 32-13 while the Golden Panthers fall to 17-33 on the season.
The Eagles put up three runs in the first inning as Josh Upchurch (Cape Coral, Fla.) got the Eagles going. He led off with a single and stole second and third before scoring on an FIU error. Stephen Rassel (Lake City, Fla.) singled later in the inning to score two more runs for the Eagles.
Stephen Wickens (Whitby, Ontario) doubled to lead off the second and scored after an Upchurch bunt single and error by the Panthers. Upchurch scored on a sacrifice fly by Ozzie Borrell (Hialeah, Fla.). The Eagles also scored a pair of runs in the third and fifth as well as three more in the sixth to take a 12-1 lead.
The bottom half of the FGCU lineup was 10-17 with eight runs scored and seven RBI. Cape Coral, Fla., native Bobby Green starred in the game going 3-5 with three RBI in the game with a pair of runs scored. Stephen Rassel, Vinnie Scarduzio and Wickens were all 2-4 for the Eagles.
Craig Crumbly (Lakeland, Fla.) picked up the win for the Eagles, going 5.0 innings while allowing one run off five hits.
The Eagles will be back in action again tomorrow at 6:30 pm when they travel to Boca Raton, Fla., to face Florida Atlantic.
