Baseball Ends Season With 38-15 Record

SPARTANBURG, S.C., – FGCU dropped their final game of the season 9-3 at USC Upstate. The Spartans improve to 25-29 overall and 17-16 in the league while FGCU ends the season with a 38-15 record and 25-8 mark in the conference.

FGCU scored a pair of runs in the top of the second as Casey Coleman (Cape Coral, Fla.) led off with a single. Vinnie Scarduzio (Jupiter, Fla.) followed with a single. Graig Smith (Venice, Fla.) drove in the first run and Stephen Wickens (Whitby, Ontario) put FGCU up 2-0. The Spartans answered with a single run in their half of the inning on a RBI single by Keith Bisgounis. FGCU added a run in the top of the fourth as Scarduzio led off with a double and scored on a single by Tim Roberson (West Palm Beach, Fla.) to take a 3-1 lead.

The Spartans exploded for five runs in the sixth inning, racking up seven hits in the inning highlighted by a two-run double by A.J. Clark.

The Spartans added two more runs in the seventh inning and one in the eighth to take a 9-3 lead and hold on for the win. Pete Woodworth (St. Petersburg, Fla.) picked up the loss for the Eagles, finishing the year at 7-3. Vinnie Scarduzio was 2-4 with a pair of runs scored in the game. Tim Roberson was 1-3 with an RBI as well.

The Eagles wrapped up their first season in Division I with a 38-15 record overall and a 25-8 mark in conference play.
