FORT MYERS, Fla., - Jason Peacock and Richard Bleier were named to the 2008 All-PING!BASEBALL team while Chris Sale was a freshman team selection.
Peacock was named 3rd Team All-PING!BASEBALL after being named Atlantic Sun Player of the Year and becoming a 26th round selection by the Florida Marlins. Peacock had one of the most productive years in the history of the Atlantic Sun as he hit .434, the sixth highest batting average in league history. Peacock also sported a .525 on base percentage. Both figures led the Atlantic Sun and ranked in the top 10 in NCAA Division I.
Bleier, also 3rd Team All-PING!BASEBALL member, became the highest draft choice to come from FGCU when the Texas Rangers selected the junior in the sixth round. He was named A-Sun Pitcher of the Year after a dominant season for the Eagles. He posted a 2.09 ERA and fired four complete games. He was the only unanimous 1st team all-conference selection this season. He led the league in ERA, innings pitched, wins and complete games while ranking among the top five in the league in opponents batting average and strikeouts.
Chris Sale was an honorable mention selection to the freshman team. The 6-5 lefty from Lakeland, Fla., had a 3.47 ERA and went 2-0 in 21 appearances. He fanned 43 batters in 36.1 innings of work while walking just 10 batters. Sale also picked up a pair of saves during the year.
