FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University baseball team fell to Wichita State on Saturday night at Swanson Stadium in day two of the FGCU Invitational.
The Eagles move to 1-2 on the season, and the Shockers improve to 2-0.
Sophomore Chris Sale (Lakeland, Fla.) held the Shockers scoreless through the first three innings, holding the Shockers to just two hits while fanning four.
The Shockers took the lead with two runs in the fourth. After Will Baez walked and stole second, Clint McKeever earned a walk and a single by Cody Lassley scored Baez to plate the first run of the game. A wild pitch by FGCU starter Chris Sale brought McKeever home to give the Shockers a 2-0 lead.
An error in the fifth inning helped the Shockers add a few more runs. Taylor Brown led off the inning with a double and scored on a single by Kevin Hall. After a one out single and stolen base by Ryan Jones, Chris O’Brien hit a ground ball that went under Stephen Wickens' glove with two outs to score two more runs and give the Shockers a 5-0 lead.
The Shockers held the Eagles to just three hits in the contest, the first came in the sixth on a double down the left line by sophomore Stephen Wickens (Whitoy, Ontario) with one out. But the Shockers reliever Grant Muncrief retired the next two Eagles batters.
The Shockers would add one more in eighth after a bases loaded walk to Kevin Hall to increase the Shockers lead to 6-0.

The Eagles close out the FGCU Invitational at Swanson Stadium against Temple on Sunday at 12 p.m.
