FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Eagles host A-Sun foe Campbell University in a three game series this weekend with a double-header on Friday starting at 4:00pm and a single game on Saturday at 1:00pm.

 

 

The Eagles enter this weekend coming off a big win against Boston College on Wednesday night to even their 2009 overall record to 5-5. Campbell comes into this weekend 8-1 (1-1 A-Sun) and leads the A-Sun in batting average, runs scored, hits, doubles, and stolen bases.

 

Against the Camels                                                                                                                             

The Eagles are 3-0 against the Camels after a three game sweep in Buies Creek, North Carolina last season. The Eagles outscored the Camels by a score of 19-7 in those three games. In games one and two, the Eagles took both games in the doubleheader from Campbell 3-2 and 13-3. In the double-header, Josh Upchurch combined to go 6-for-9 with three runs scored and four RBI’s. Mikel Alvarez went 4-for-8 with three runs scored and an RBI in the double0-header. In game three, the Camels up a run in both the first and second inning before the Eagles would answer in the third with a pair of runs to even the score. From that point, the pitchers settled down. Richie Erath tossed 5.1 scoreless innings and struck out a pair of batters and scattered three hits while Campbell starter Hunter Ford worked 8.0 innings and allowed four hits and four walks in the game. The final run in the game came in the top of the tenth as the Eagles plated one to complete the sweep as they won 3-2 in ten innings.

 

Know Your Opponent                                                                                                                          

The Camels are off to an 8-1 start this season, including 1-1 in Atlantic Sun play.  This is just the second series between the Camels and the Eagles.  The Eagles own the series lead 3-0 after sweeping the Camels in Buies Creek last season.

 

Friday’s starters for Campbell will likely be Ryan Hamme (1-0) and Dan Gardo (0-0).  Saturday’s starter will either be senior Josh Fish (1-1) or junior Jeff Rydman (2-0). 

 

Ryan Hamme enters the weekend tilt with a 4.50 ERA over 10 innings of work.  Hamme has allowed just five runs while fanning 11 batters.  Gardo has pitched 7.2 innings so far this season and has struck out nine batters.  Fish and Rydman have combined to pitch 21 innings, allowing just two earned runs between the pair, while striking out 14 batters.

 

Campbell leads the league in team batting average (.351), slugging percentage (.551), on base percentage (.465), runs scored (116), hits (114), RBI (102), and doubles (31).  Campbell also leads the league in stolen bases (33).

 

Last Time Out for the Camels                                                                                                              

The Campbell University baseball team swept Florida A&M in doubleheader action on Tuesday afternoon.  With the sweep the Camels improve to 8-1 on the season, while the Rattlers dip to 4-5.  Campbell defeated Florida A&M 7-0 in game one and 16-6 in game two.

 

After the three game series with Campbell University, the Eagles will host Penn State on  Tuesday March 10th at 6:00 pm, and on March 11th at 4:00 pm.
