FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University Baseball team and UCF got into the bottom of the first before a heavy thunderstorm in Fort Myers moved in and forced the two clubs to postpone the game on Tuesday night at Swanson Stadium. A makeup date has not been announced.
After the contest started at 6:02 p.m., the Knights and Eagles played 10 minutes before the rain hit. They waited until a little after 7 p.m. before the umpires came out and agreed to call it. The Eagles leadoff hitter Josh Upchurch (Cape Coral, Fla.) got aboard on a two-base error in the bottom of the first. That was when lightning was spotted over the center field fence and the tarp was rolled out.
FGCU and UCF now head to Orlando to finish off the home-and-home series with a 6:30 p.m. matchup Wednesday at Jay Bergman Field.
