Eagles Set to Take on Cowboys in Stillwater

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU baseball team will be looking to knock off a Big 12 powerhouse when it takes on Oklahoma State Tuesday and Wednesday at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater, Okla. Both games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CST starts. The midweek contests against the Cowboys will be the first ever between FGCU and Oklahoma State.

Florida Gulf Coast is 14-8 on the season, with three of their losses coming against ranked teams.

Through the first 22 games, FGCU holds a .354 team batting average with all starters hitting above .321. The team is led by A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year Zach Maxfield’s (North Port, Fla.) .408 average with 21 RBI, 19 runs scored, and two home runs. Stephen Wickens (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) is second on the squad with .387 average to go with his 18 RBI, 22 runs, and one homer. Tim Roberson (West Palm Beach, Fla.), FGCU’s leader in homers (6), and Austin Gaines (Dunedin, Fla.) have combined for 53 runs, drove in 50, and are hitting .371 and .383, respectively. The Blue and Green have outscored their opponents 202-131 thus far and have a pitching staff that has struck out 196 batters while walking 79.

OSU head coach Frank Anderson is in his seventh season at the helm of the Cowboys and has led the club to 247 wins in his career. Oklahoma State is coming off a season in which they finished 34-24 and advanced to the finals of the NCAA Clemson Regional. With that showing, OSU became the only Big 12 Conference team to advance to a Regional championship round each of the last four seasons.

OSU leads the Big 12 with a .346 team batting average, with seven of the Cowboy regulars in the starting lineup hitting .300 or better, and the pitching staff sports a collective 4.80 ERA.

The Cowboys are 751-160 (.824) all-time at Reynolds Stadium (their home since 1981) and have lost more than two consecutive games on their home turf only once (six in a row in May 2007). OSU is 11-1 at home in 2010.
