FORT MYERS, Fla. - FGCU junior Chris Sale (Lakeland, Fla.) picked up his second consecutive Pitcher of the Week honor (third of the season) after his double-digit strikeout performance at Clemson last week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Sale moved the FGCU baseball team past No. 23 Clemson, 4-2, Saturday evening in Clemson, S.C at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. Fresh off an FGCU record setting 15-strikeout outing, the Lakeland, Fla. native posted another noteworthy performance in the game one start. Improving his record to 7-0 on the year with the win, the junior lefty went eight full innings and allowed just two earned runs on four hits, with 10 strikeouts against the nationally ranked Tigers. Sale owns 103 strikeouts on the season with just 11 walks in 75 innings pitched.
As of April 25, Sale was ranked second in the nation in strikeouts (93), just three behind Asher Wojceichowski’s (Citadel) nation-leading (98) strikeouts, while also ranking sixth in strikeouts per nine innings (12.49).
