Sale Snags a Spot on the Yahoo! Sports All-America Team
Tuesday, June 15, 2010

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The most decorated student-athlete in Flordia Gulf Coast’s young history, FGCU junior Chris Sale added to his postseason accolades as he was named to the Yahoo! Sports All-America Team Tuesday. Sale now has been selected as a First Team All-American by three different outlets (Ping!Baseball, Louisville Slugger, Yahoo! Sports).

Unlike other All-America baseball squads where there is a first, second and third team, Yahoo! Sports only has a first team and Sale was one of the four pitchers to receive the accolade.

Along with being an All-American, Sale is currently one of five finalists for the USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, which is comparable to the Heisman Trophy in college football. Fans help decide the winner as they collectively serve as one voter on the panel by visiting Voting for fans and the voting body ends at 5 p.m. ET on Friday, June 18. The winner will be named at the MLB All-Star FanFest July 13 in Anaheim, Calif.

A Lakeland, Fla. native and No. 13 overall pick by the Chicago White Sox, Sale produced amazing numbers in 2010, including finishing his junior season with an 11-0 record, two saves and a 2.01 ERA in 17 appearances. He racked up 146 strikeouts with just 14 walks for a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 10.4-to-1 for the year.

Sale, who has already been named the Collegiate Baseball's National Player of the Year, the Atlantic Sun Conference Pitcher of the Year, a Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I First-Team All-American, a Ping! Baseball First Team All-American, a semifinalist on the College Baseball Foundation's Pitcher of the Year Watch List, and a finalist for the 2010 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award (GSA), is the first three-time Division I All-American in Florida Gulf Coast athletics program history.
