FORT MYERS, Fla. – After opening the 2011 Atlantic Sun season on the road the last two weekends, the FGCU baseball team will cap a busy week at Swanson Stadium with a three-game conference set against Campbell beginning on Friday afternoon.
Friday’s opener was originally scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m., but has been moved to 4 p.m. to avoid traffic and parking issues due to the women’s basketball team hosting Drexel at 7:05 p.m. in the WNIT first round. Swanson Stadium and Alico Arena share the same parking lots.
The Eagles enter the weekend an 8-9 overall record and 3-3 mark in the A-Sun following road trips to UNF and fellow preseason favorite Mercer. Campbell also sports an 8-9 record, but it is 1-5 in league action. The Camels did end last weekend with a 7-2 win over then-No. 26 Stetson.
The three games will be the final meetings between the two teams as members of the A-Sun Conference. Campbell will join the Big South Conference following the year. FGCU has never lost to the Camels, sweeping all three of the previous series. Over those nine games, FGCU has out-scored Campbell, 83-45.
Senior Zach Maxfield (North Port, Fla./North Port HS/Pasco-Hernando CC) leads the team in nearly offensive category, including batting average (.362), hits (25), doubles (8), home runs (4), RBI (20), slugging percentage (.652) and on-base percentage (.464).
