CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Behind 10 unanswered runs to open the game, the University of Miami handed the FGCU baseball team a 13-2 loss on Tuesday night at Alex Rodriguez Park.

The Hurricanes plated a run in each of the first five innings en route to taking a 10-0 lead. Miami improved to 15-11 on the season, while FGCU’s record evens at 13-13 heading into this weekend’s Atlantic Sun series at ETSU.

FGCU received multi-hit evenings from senior Tim Roberson (West Palm Beach, Fla./Palm Beach Central HS) and freshman Jake Foley (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte HS) as it pounded out seven hits as a team, but was plagued by nine runners left on base. Foley’s 2-for-4 night included an RBI, while senior Robert Greene (Cape Coral, Fla./Mariner HS) drove in the other run. Senior Zach Maxfield (North Port, Fla./North Port HS) supplied his team-leading 11th double in a 1-for-3 night at the plate.

Miami finished the game with 11 hits, but was also aided by eight walks handed out by the FGCU pitching staff. Freshman Brandon Bixler (Oviedo, Fla./Hagerty HS) (0-3) made his fourth career start and took the loss after tossing just one inning. Five different pitchers took the mound after Bixler with freshman Alex Norris (Clearwater, Fla./Dunedin HS) having the best outing with two scoreless innings.

Steve Ewing improved to 3-1 with the win for the Hurricanes, as the sophomore lefty struck out five and gave up three hits over his 5.2 innings. As it did last week against the Eagles, the Miami bullpen turned in another good performance with 3.1 scoreless innings.

FGCU will be back in action on Friday, April 1 when it travels to Johnson City, Tenn. for an important three-game A-Sun set against ETSU (14-7, 6-4). First pitch on Friday is slated for 7 p.m. ET.
