FORT MYERS, Fla. – After enjoying six days off from game action, the FGCU baseball team will play its first game at Swanson Stadium in the month of April on Tuesday evening when it hosts Bethune-Cookman at 6:30 p.m.

The Eagles enter their five-game week with a 15-16 overall record while Tuesday night’s game will be their first home contest since March 26. FGCU opened the season with 17 of its first 25 games at Swanson Stadium, while the two teams will conclude the two-game set on Wednesday night.

Bethune-Cookman enters on a four-game win streak and an overall record of 19-15. Off to a 6-0 start in the MEAC, the Wildcats have picked up quality wins over Auburn, Michigan State, USF and Stetson. Bethune-Cookman has faced three A-Sun teams so far this season, producing a 3-2 record. The Wildcats have won five straight MEAC titles and were the preseason favorite.

The two teams have won a combined eight straight conference regular season titles in their respective leagues and have met five times with the Wildcats holding a slim 3-2 edge. The lone meeting at Swanson Stadium came in 2009 when Bethune-Cookman came away with a 6-1 victory.

Prior to last Wednesday’s loss to Miami, FGCU had belted 42 hits over its previous three contests. Senior Zach Maxfield (North Port, Fla./North Port HS/Pasco-Hernando CC) leads the team with a .371 batting average, 11 doubles, seven home runs and 33 RBI.

Bethune-Cookman junior catcher Peter O’Brien, a third team All-American by Collegiate Baseball in 2010 and the MEAC preseason Player of the Year, leads the conference with 10 home runs and is second with 40 RBI. O’Brien’s 10 long balls highlight 36 homers from the Wildcats through 35 games.
