FGCU Trio Named Northwoods League All-Stars
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The 2011 Northwoods League All-Star game will have an FGCU feel to it, as senior-to-be Jason Forjet (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Nova HS) and sophomores-to-be Ricky Knapp (Port Charlotte, Fla./Port Charlotte HS) and Sean Dwyer (Leesburg, Fla./Tavares HS) were all named to the North Division team. The game will be played on Monday, July 18 at Witter Field in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisc.
Forjet will represent the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers, while both Knapp and Dwyer have enjoyed good starts to the summer with the Willmar Stingers. The trio of FGCU players is the most from one school that will be represented in the All-Star game. Eight other schools had two players each.
Forjet has been dominant over his six starts for second place Brainerd Lakes, striking out 47 batters over 41 innings, figures that both rank second in the league. Despite giving up just one earned or less in five of six starts, Forjet is just 2-0 and ranks second in the league amongst starters with a 1.76 ERA. Opponents are hitting just .181 against Forjet, while he averages 10.3 strikeouts per nine innings.
Playing his second straight summer season with Willmar, Dwyer enters the All-Star game on an eight-game hit streak. Dwyer sports a .279 batting average with 26 runs scored, 36 hits, three doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI while working a team-high 19 walks. The Leesburg, Fla. product has a hit in 26 of 34 games and his current eight-game hit streak in just one shy of his season-best of nine. Dwyer also has five assists from the outfield with no errors.
Knapp has carried the momentum from an A-Sun All-Freshmen campaign over to Willmar where he is 3-1 with a 3.41 ERA over four starts. Knapp has been incredibly efficient on the mound, striking out 26 batters over 29 innings while only issuing three walks. He has gone seven or more innings in three starts.
This year's All-Stars were chosen in a vote by the 16 member teams of the Northwoods League. Ballots were cast by each team's field staff and media contacts.
