FORT MYERS, Fla. – Just over a month remains until the opening pitch of the 2012 FGCU baseball season but the Eagles received their first preseason recognition on Wednesday morning as junior catcher Mike Reeves (Peterborough, Ontario/St. Peter’s Secondary) was selected to the Atlantic Sun Preseason All-Conference second team by College Sports Madness.

Finishing last season with a .314 batting average and a .406 on-base percentage, Reeves enters the 2012 campaign as the Eagles leading offensive returner. The Peterborough, Ontario product tallied nine doubles, a team-leading two triples and a pair of home runs, while adding 27 runs scored and 29 RBI a season ago.

During the summer of 2011, Reeves appeared in 62 games for the La Crosse Loggers of the Northwoods League, holding a .222 average with 25 RBI, 26 walks and 26 runs scored while adding 13 extra-base hits with 12 doubles and one game-winning home run. Additionally, he also added nine multi-hit games.

The Eagles wrapped up the 2011 season with a 27-28 overall record and narrowly missed their second straight A-Sun tournament after finishing seventh in the final standings with a 16-14 league mark. The Green and Blue welcome back 14 players from last season’s team, as the 2012 campaign gets underway with a three-game weekend series with Bethune-Cookman beginning Friday, February 17 at 6:30 p.m. at Swanson Stadium.
