FORT MYERS, Fla. – With the 2012 FGCU baseball season opener one week away, head coach Dave Tollett is this week’s guest on the latest “Eye on Eagles” feature by WINK-TV that will air during this Saturday’s morning broadcast. The interview will run sometime between 6-7 a.m.
Tollett sat down with WINK News Sports Director Clayton Ferraro for this week’s interview, discussing the team’s upcoming season.

Entering the 10th season of the program, this year’s 56-game slate includes 30 home and 26 road contests and features opponents from the ACC, SEC, Big Ten, BIG EAST, and Big XII, in addition to the nine Atlantic Sun Conference schools. In 2011, the A-Sun finished with the eighth-best conference RPI in front of the BIG EAST, Big Ten and Mountain West, according to WarrenNolan.com.
The Eagles wrapped up the 2011 season with a 27-28 overall record, and narrowly missed their second straight A-Sun tournament after finishing seventh in the final standings with a 16-14 league mark. The Green and Blue welcome back 14 players from last season’s team and usher in 19 newcomers to this year’s squad.
FGCU will open the 2012 season with an 11-game homestand at Swanson Stadium, beginning with a three-game set with Bethune-Cookman beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17. Former FGCU Eagle and current Chicago White Sox pitcher Chris Sale will throw out the first pitch. Fans with a ticket to the FGCU men’s basketball game against Stetson on Feb. 17 will be admitted into the baseball opener.
