Bixler's One-Hit Gem Earns Louisville Slugger National Player of Week Honors
FORT MYERS, Fla. – For his performance in the 8.2 inning one-hitter against Bryant which featured 12 strikeouts on Sunday afternoon at Swanson Stadium, FGCU baseball sophomore lefty Brandon Bixler (Oviedo, Fla./Hagerty HS) was named one of Louisville Slugger’s National Players of the Week, announced by the media outlet on Monday afternoon.
Marking the fifth one-hitter in program history and just the second in the Division I era, Bixler had an outstanding afternoon on the mound for the Green and Blue. Scattering three walks throughout the contest, the lefty racked up a career-high 12 strikeouts in his 26-out gem. Improving to 1-1 on the season, Bixler finished the afternoon with one hit allowed, accounting for the Bulldogs’ lone run in the game.
Following a two-out walk and a wild pitch in the ninth, David Soltis stepped to the plate and sent a 3-2 pitch, Bixler’s 136th of the afternoon, into centerfield for the lone hit while bringing in the visitor’s only run from second base. Following Bixler’s departure, the Eagles went on to strike out the final batter swinging to take the 5-1 victory over the Bulldogs.
Through two starts this season, Bixler holds a 1.42 ERA with a .051 opponent batting average. Accumulating 17 strikeouts, the Oviedo, Fla. product has allowed just two hits this season to go with seven walks and three runs (two earned) in 12.2 innings of work.

LHP - Chipper Smith, Cumberland (TN)
Smith fired Cumberland's first no-hitter since 2004, striking out 14 batters over the 7-inning contest during a 5-0 win over Point Park.
1B - Johnny Coy, Wichita St.
Coy hit .600 (15-for-25) with 8 runs, 3 doubles, 2 home runs and 20 RBI over five games last week
LHP - Brandon Bixler, Florida Gulf Coast
Bixler struck out 12 batters and came within one pitch of throwing a no-hitter in a 9-inning, 5-1 win over Bryant.
CF - James Ramsey, Florida St.
Ramsey made 19 plate appearances and reached base 15 times, recording 6 hits, 7 walks, one hit by pitch and reaching on a fielding error. At one point, Ramsey reached base in nine consecutive at-bats.
