FORT MYERS, Fla. – With his second straight Atlantic Sun Conference complete-game shutout on Friday evening in a 4-0 victory over ETSU, sophomore right-hander Ricky Knapp (Port Charlotte, Fla./Port Charlotte HS) picked up his second consecutive A-Sun Pitcher of the Week honor, announced by the league office on Monday.
Knapp becomes the first A-Sun pitcher to repeat the weekly honor since former Eagle and current White Sox pitcher Chris Sale received the award three consecutive times during the 2010 season.
Extending his scoreless innings streak to 19.2 innings, Knapp recorded his second straight complete-game shutout over the Bucs, a performance which featured a career-high eight strikeouts, no walks and six hits over the 120-pitch outing.
Having faced three BCS opponents earlier this season, Knapp owns a 4-1 record with an A-Sun leading 1.30 ERA, 25 strikeouts and just four walks in a team-high 41.2 innings pitched.
Earning his first career A-Sun Pitcher of the Week honor last week, Knapp’s conference-opening complete game shutout against North Florida (March 16) matched a then-career high six strikeouts while allowing just three hits and issuing three walks in a 92-pitch complete game which lasted only an hour and 46 minutes.
Following a 1-2 A-Sun weekend series with ETSU, the Eagles (9-15, 3-3 A-Sun) return to the field as they travel to Miami, Fla. on Wednesday to open a home-and-home series with FIU beginning at 6 p.m. Live stats, in-game Twitter updates (@FGCUBaseball), results and recaps will be available at www.FGCUAthletics.com.
