CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After getting through three full innings, the FGCU baseball team’s final non-conference game at No. 21 Miami on Tuesday night was cancelled due to lightning and rain in the area. The game was the deciding contest in the season series between the two clubs that is tied at 1-1.
With FGCU at-bat in the top of the fourth trailing 3-2, the lightning and rain arrived over Alex Rodriguez Park to send the game into delay before eventually being cancelled.
Miami got the best of the Eagles at Hammond Stadium, 3-0, on Feb. 22, but the Eagles were hoping to take the season series tonight after winning in Coral Gables against the then-No. 6 Hurricanes on April 11, by a 4-2 margin.
The Eagles will now turn their attention to their final Atlantic Sun series of the season beginning Thursday at second place Stetson. FGCU enters the three-game set in a tie with Mercer for the sixth and final spot in the A-Sun Tournament. Stetson’s game tonight at No. 13 UCF was also cancelled, while the Bears defeated Georgia Tech, 4-3. The series opener on Thursday night is slated for a 6:30 p.m. start.
