DeLAND, Fla. – Inclement weather in the DeLand, Fla. area has resulted in a postponement of game two in the Atlantic Sun weekend series between the FGCU baseball team and Stetson. The teams are now slated for a doubleheader on Saturday morning at Melching Field at Conrad Park.
The two coaching staffs will meet at the stadium at 8 a.m. on Saturday to determine the appropriate length of time to get the field into playing shape, with the hope of starting the doubleheader around 11 a.m.
The Eagles (22-29) are in a battle to the finish with just the two games with Stetson remaining on the A-Sun regular season schedule. Entering Friday, FGCU sat alongside Mercer in sixth place in the league standings with a 13-12 A-Sun mark. The top six teams advance to the A-Sun Tournament in DeLand, Fla. (Stetson) on May 23-26.
Mercer picked up an 18-7 victory over USC Upstate on Friday in Macon, Ga. to move into a share of fifth place in the league standings. Additionally, Lipscomb fell to Belmont on Friday, 5-0, to slide into the split for fifth with Mercer at 14-12 in A-Sun play. The Bears and Bisons each hold the tie-breaker over FGCU.
FGCU will need a series sweep of Stetson in order to create any tie-breaker scenarios which would favor the Eagles.
