DeLAND, Fla. – After winning a pair of games in the Atlantic Sun Baseball Tournament, FGCU was represented well on the All-Tournament team with senior center fielder Ryan Gebhart (Waco, Texas/Midway HS/Missouri), senior right-hander Jason Forjet (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Nova HS), sophomore shortstop Brandon Bednar (Stuart, Fla./South Fork HS) and sophomore Sean Dwyer (Tavares, Fla./Tavares HS) representing the Green & Blue on the squad.

FGCU’s four players on the A-Sun All-Tourney team were the most from one school in the field of six teams. A-Sun Tournament champ Belmont and runner-up Kennesaw State each had three players on the team, while the Bruins’ Judah Akers was named the Tournament MVP.

Hitting in the cleanup position all four games, Bednar led the A-Sun Tournament with a .600 batting average, going 9-for-15 at the dish. Bednar delivered a hit and RBI in each of the four games, accumulating a program A-Sun Tournament record six RBI over the four days. The Stuart, Fla. had three hits in each of FGCU’s wins to open the tournament against third-seeded KSU and fifth-seeded Mercer.

Dwyer accumulated a .474 batting average (9-19) at the tournament with multi-hits in all four games. He also drove in five runs with two in the opening day win over Kennesaw State and a bases-clearing double in the Eagles’ last game against the Owls. In all, Dwyer finished among the tournament leaders in batting average, hits, doubles (2), total bases (11) and slugging percentage (.579).

Making what turned out to be his last start as an Eagle, Forjet saved one of his best performances for last when he led FGCU past Mercer, 5-4. Forjet gutted out 112 pitches en route to a complete game win over the Bears to help FGCU become the only team in the field of six to win its first two games. The Pembroke Pines, Fla. native struck out a tournament-high 11 batters over his second career complete game.

Gebhart capped his one-year stay with the Eagles by torturing FGCU’s opponents on the base paths, reaching in 11-of-20 plate appearances. Gebhart set a program A-Sun Tournament record by scoring seven runs, good for second amongst the tournament leaders. He hit .308 (4-11), added four walks and was hit-by-pitch twice for an on-base percentage of .526. Gebhart also scored an FGCU A-Sun Tournament single-game record three runs in the opener against Kennesaw State.
