FORT MYERS, Fla. – For the second straight summer the Willmar Stingers will be represented by a pair of FGCU baseball players in the Northwoods League (NWL) All-Star game, as sophomores-to-be Michael Suchy (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast HS) and Brady Anderson (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto County HS) will represent their club on the North Division squad. The game will be played on Tuesday, July 24 at 8:35 p.m. ET at Warner Park in Madison, Wisconsin.

Suchy and Anderson follow in the footsteps of juniors-to-be Ricky Knapp (Port Charlotte, Fla./Port Charlotte HS) and Sean Dwyer (Tavares, Fla./Tavares HS) with their all-star selections as members of the Willmar Stingers. Knapp and Dwyer were named Northwoods League All-Stars in 2011, and are currently playing for Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in the Cape Cod League.

Eight different universities will be represented by two players in the All-Star Game. Atlantic Sun members FGCU and UNF make up a quarter of the list that includes Kansas, Long Beach State, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

Anderson has been lights out as the Stingers’ closer, ranking second in the Northwoods League with 10 saves in 14 appearances. The hard-throwing right-hander also sports a record of 2-0 with a 2.95 ERA. Over 18.1 innings of work, Anderson has 20 strikeouts with at least one punch out in 13 of 14 trips out of the pen.

Suchy, who has led the Northwoods League in RBI much of the season until Alabama’s Ben Moore had 15 in four games, sports a .344 batting average with a team-best eight doubles, six home runs and 43 RBI. His 43 RBI rank second in the league, while Suchy is also tied for fifth with 36 runs scored, tied for seventh with 52 hits, seventh in on-base percentage (.448) and ninth in slugging percentage (.530). Suchy has seen time at first base and center field, adding 11 stolen bases.

This year's All-Stars were chosen in a vote by the 16 member teams of the Northwoods League. Ballots were cast by each team's field staff and media contacts.

The 2012 Northwoods League All-Star Game festivities kick off on Monday, July 23, the day before the game. At 7 p.m. ET it’s the NWL All-Star Steak and Lobster Dinner featuring Guest Speaker, Milwaukee Brewers President of Operations and General Manager Doug Melvin. On Tuesday, July 24, fans can come out to the park before the game for the Northwoods League Home Run Derby, which begins at 7 p.m. ET at “The Duck Pond”, preceding the 8:35 p.m. first pitch for the 18th annual NWL All-Star Game. The Northwoods League has more teams, plays more games, and draws more fans than any Summer Collegiate Baseball League in North America.
