FORT MYERS, Fla. – Sophomore reliever Brady Anderson (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto County HS) of the FGCU baseball team was named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch list, announced by the media outlet Friday.
Anderson is one of six pitchers from the Atlantic Sun Conference to be nominated for this award.
In his first season of collegiate baseball, Anderson appeared in 20 games, making three starts and tossing 39.2 innings for the Eagles. The Arcadia, Fla. native, led the team with four saves on the year and second on the team in appearances (20) on the mound. Anderson held a 1-7 record with a 4.08 ERA and 26 strikeouts and started his collegiate career with eight scoreless innings of relief.
In 23 games with the Willmar Stingers of the Northwoods Summer League, Anderson was recognized as one of the top prospects by Perfect Game, after finishing with a 3.00 ERA and 35 strikeouts in an even 30 innings pitched. Holding a 3-1 record as a reliever, Anderson recorded 15 saves, which was the second most in the league.
Following an injury suffered in practice last week, Anderson will not see action in 2013.
Nominations for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award were made by baseball sports information/media relations contacts. The initial list will be updated with a mid-season release the week of April 16, including the national saves leaders. At the conclusion of the regular season, the Division I national saves leader and four other relief pitching standouts will be selected as finalists and released Wednesday, June 5, prior to start of NCAA Super Regional tournament competition.
The Blue and Green will get the 2013 season underway on Feb. 15 in Sarasota, Fla. when they take on St. John’s as part of the Snowbird Baseball Classic. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. Fans can get updates and information on FGCU baseball all season long by visiting www.FGCUATHLETICS.com or by following the team on twitter @FGCU_Baseball.
