FORT MYERS, Fla. – For his outstanding play over the final four games of the regular season last week, FGCU baseball sophomore Michael Suchy (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast HS) was named the Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday morning.

Helping the Eagles clinch the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, Suchy hit .529 (9-for-17) with an on-base percentage of .579 and a .941 slugging percentage over the final four games of the regular season, bringing in nine RBI and recording team-highs of nine runs scored and two home runs.

Suchy led the charge in the A-Sun series sweep over Stetson last weekend, hitting .615 (8-for-13) with team highs of eight RBI and five runs scored, slugging 1.154 with 15 total bases and a pair of home runs, earning the final A-Sun Player of Week honor of year. It was the second A-Sun weekly honor for Suchy in a three-week span, and the second of his career, as the Eagles have now garnered the award in each of the last three weeks.

In the mid-week contest against USF (May 14) last Tuesday, Suchy went 1-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI.

Coming alive at the plate as of late, Suchy has brought his average up to .320 and has connected for a team-high nine home runs, tying a team-high 46 RBI and scoring 37 times. Matching a team-best seven stolen bases this season, Suchy is reaching base at a .391 rate and has a .484 slugging percentage.

It marks the third-straight A-Sun Player of the Week honor for the Eagles, and fourth overall this season. Junior Sean Dwyer (Taveras, Fla./Taveras HS) earned the award last week (May 13) after Suchy earned the honor the week prior (May 6), and redshirt senior Brooks Beisner (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte HS/Auburn) picked up the recognition earlier this season (Feb. 25). Junior right-hander Ricky Knapp (Port Charlotte, Fla./Port Charlotte HS) has also twice been named the league’s Pitcher of the Week this year (Feb. 25, April 29).

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday when they start the A-Sun Tournament against seventh-seeded Kennesaw State in Deland, Fla. at 5 p.m. A full preview of the midweek non-conference meeting will be available at www.FGCUATHLETICS.com on Tuesday.
