. – For the second time this season, FGCU starter Mike Murray has been named Atlantic Sun Pitcher of the Week, as announced Monday morning by the conference office, in recognition of his career-best and A-Sun season-best 13 strikeout, 7.0 scoreless inning performance against Florida A&M on Friday night.

“He has been excellent all year,” head coach Dave Tollett added. “Every time he takes the ball he puts up impressive numbers and we have a great chance to win and that’s all you can ask for.”

Murray (West Palm Beach, Fla./Forrest Hill HS) worked arguably his best start of the season against Florida A&M. His previous career-high strikeout total was 10 which came last season and he had fanned nine twice this season. FGCU then let the bullpen take care of the Rattlers the rest of the way to secure the victory for Murray which was at the time the fifth-straight win for the team.

Murray has now picked up victories in each of his last four starts and has not allowed an earned run in any of them. His 39 strikeouts lead the conference and his 0.25 ERA is tops in the league among starters. The West Palm Beach, Fla. native has walked only five batters and allowed 28 hits in 36.2 innings of work for a WHIP of 0.912 and opponents are batting just .209 against him. His 4-0 record is a league-best and just one win shy of his total for 2013.

The Eagles will take the field again on Wednesday at Hammond Stadium at 6:30 p.m. against the nationally ranked Miami (Fla.) Hurricanes in search of an eighth-consecutive victory and their second over a ranked opponent this season. Following Wednesday’s affair the Green and Blue will begin conference play with a trip to USC-Upstate for a three-game set. FGCU finished 19-8 in the A-Sun last season.

Reserved tickets will be $10 and youth reserved for children 12 and under will only cost $7. General admission tickets are available for $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under. Tickets can be purchased by calling the FGCU Ticket Office at 239-590-7145 and will be available for pick-up if need be at the Hammond Stadium box office on game day.
