Selected in the 15th round of the 2008 MLB draft (461st overall) by the Chicago Cubs … became the first family to have three generations of pitchers reach the major leagues … father, Joe, played from 1965-79, making the 1972 All-Star Game as a member of the Detroit Tigers … grandfather, Joe, was named an All-Star in 1948, highlighting his 10-year career (1942-55) … Casey and his father also become the eighth father-son combination to have played for the Cubs but the first father-son pitching combination to appear for the team, as Joe was a member of the organization in 1976.
As A Junior (2008)
Made 13 starts on the mound, finishing with a 7-3 record and a 4.11 ERA, which ranked 10th in the Atlantic Sun Conference … in 70 innings of work, he fanned 58 batters while holding the opposition to a .264 average … recorded a season-high eight strikeouts on two occasions, including his first start of the season against Southeastern (Feb. 23) and the victory at UCF (April 2) … in 43 games played, he held a batting average of .314 with 11 doubles, 3 triples and five home runs … also added 32 RBI and 23 runs scored and 10 walks … posted a .500 slugging and .344 on-base percentage … was also a perfect 3-3 when attempting to steal a base … had multi-hit efforts on 17 occasions, highlighted by a 4-for-5 game against ETSU (May 10) in which he drove in three runs and scored twice while adding a home run and a stolen base.
Summer of 2007
Competed on the mound and infield for the Alexandria Beetles of the Northwoods League … made 14 appearances on the mound, tossing 31 innings while striking out 25 batters … went 1-2 and picked up a pair of saves … drove in 26 runs which ranked fourth on the squad … also stole six bases while scoring 21 runs.
As A Sophomore (2007)
Started 41 games at shortstop … Hit .295 and drove in 33 runs while adding 43 runs scored … tallied eight doubles, three triples and a pair of homeruns … recorded 13 multiple hit games … finished the season on a five game hitting streak … made 14 appearances with 11 starts on the mound … went 6-2 with a 4.29 ERA in 65.0 innings of work … struck out 63 batters while allowing only 25 walks … held opponents to a .268 batting average … picked up first win of the season at No. 3 Florida Southern, going 7.0 innings while fanning five batters and scattering five hits … followed with a career-high 11 strikeouts in 5.0 innings at Florida Tech … went 8.0 innings and registered nine strike outs striking in game one of the South Regional.
As A Freshman (2006)
Named to Division II All-South Region team … named Independents Collegiate Athletic Association Division II Freshman of the Year … selected to All-Independents second team, becoming the first Eagles' freshman to receive the honor ... finished fifth on the team in hitting with a .346 average, recording 56 hits, 32 RBI and five stolen bases ... made 13 appearances on the mound, including seven starts … held a 3-1 record with a team-high six saves and a 2.56 ERA … struck out 50 batters in 52 innings pitched, while holding opponents to a .241 batting average … picked up the win in his first career start on the mound against Albany State (Feb. 5), striking out a season-high nine batters with no walks over four innings of work … struck out five or more batters four times … first career save came during a three-inning relief effort against Palm Beach Atlantic (Feb. 25) … struck out six over six innings during a win against Missouri-St. Louis (Mar. 16) and hurled a complete game against Saint Leo (Apr. 25) for third win.
A 2005 graduate of Mariner High ... played for coach Steve Larson ... earned FHSAA Class 5A All-State first team honors as a pitcher ... went 14-1 with a 1.11 ERA ... hit .429 for the season.
Son of Joe and Donna … his favorite sports moment is being drafted in the major league amateur draft ... his career aspiration is to be a professional baseball player and coach ... he is most thankful for his great family …. undecided on a major.
