Narmbaye to Join FGCU Men's Basketball Program
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University basketball coach Dave Balza announced today that Mbainai “Roman” Narmbaye will transfer from LaSalle University to join the Eagles next season. A 6-foot-10 center, Narmbaye will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
“We are very pleased to have a player like Roman join our program,” said Balza. “He is a tremendous young man with an interesting background. He brings much needed size to our lineup.”
Narmbaye played his freshman season at LaSalle in 2004-05 after sitting out the 2003-04 season as a medical red shirt after suffering a torn ACL. Narmbaye played in seven games for the Explorers, scoring two points and grabbing eight rebounds.
A native of Chad, Africa, Narmbaye played his high school basketball at the Life Center School in Burlington, New Jersey, averaging 10 points, 10 rebounds and three assists in his senior year. He was named “Best Rebounder” at the Five-Star Basketball Camp and was selected to the all-region third team by HoopScoop magazine as a senior.
FGCU must replace eight seniors from last year’s 24-7 team that advanced to the NCAA Division II national tournament. The Eagles 2005-06 schedule is expected to be announced in the near future.
