Saturday, December 01, 2007

FORT MYERS, Fla., - The FGCU men’s basketball team may have concluded its 13-day five-game road trip, but the team still has four more games to go before playing in front of its home crowd. The Eagles next four games, beginning with Sunday’s contest at Florida International, are all on the road.

Rob Quaintance (Glendale, Az.) had a career-high 16 points in the Eagles last game at Arizona State. The Arizona native went 5-for-7 from outside to pick up his career-high. FGCU nearly matched a school-record, drilling 14 three’s in the game. The school record is 16, set nearly three years ago.

Florida International and FGCU have met twice before with the Panthers taking both meetings. FIU won the first meeting 78-50 in the Eagles first season and escaped with a 77-70 win the following season.

The Panthers are in the middle of a season-opening seven game home stand. FIU won the first two while dropping the last two games for a 2-2 overall mark on the season. Alex Glaindo, averaging a team-best 13.5 ppg., leads four Panthers in double figures. Russell Hicks adds 12.5 points per game and a team-high 6.8 rebounds per contest. Kenneth White (10.3) Chris Fuller (10.0) are the other Panthers in double figures in scoring. The Eagles will have some time off before their next game.

FGCU will not be in action until next Saturday when they travel to Boca Raton to face Florida Atlantic. The FGCU Alumni Association is chartering a bus to take fans to the FAU game. Please call 590-1016 for more details.
