Men's Basketball Recruiting Class Recognized by HoopScoop
Wednesday, August 18, 2010
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s basketball program’s seven-member recruiting class recently earned some praise from HoopScoop Online as the second-best class in the 11-member Atlantic Sun Conference.

HoopScoop Online is a basketball website dedicated to ranking the top high school prospects in the country, as well as incoming collegiate recruiting classes.

The Eagles found themselves only behind Campbell in the A-Sun rankings despite the fact that Ole Miss transfer Kevin Cantinol wasn’t counted in the new class. The 6-foot-9, 250-lb. forward will have two years of eligibility starting after the fall semester.

Junior college transfers Marlon Rivera and Timothy Snyder, along with the freshmen class of Marcus Blake, Chase Fieler, Nick Goshay, Jordan Negrin, and Christophe Varidel were highlighted in the ranking.

Led by head coach Dave Balza, FGCU welcomes back eight players, including their top two leading scorers from last season in redshirt sophomore Anthony Banks and senior Reed Baker who averaged 12.9 and 11.4 points per game, respectively. Banks led the team in scoring and rebounding (6.6) in 2009-10 en route to being named to the A-Sun All-Freshmen team.

The Eagles recently released five games off their 2010-11 non-conference schedule, including a Nov. 27 showdown against ACC member and in-state rival Miami at Alico Arena. The Blue and Green will also open the season at Big Ten foe Indiana on Nov. 12 and head to fellow Big Ten member Ohio State on Dec. 15. Other home games include N.C. Central (Dec. 21) and IUPUI (Dec. 27).

Single-game and season tickets are now on sale and can be purchased through the FGCU Ticket Office in Alico Arena either in person or by phone at (239) 590-7145. Tickets are also available on www.FGCUathletics.com/tickets.
