Miller Named Interim Head Coach
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh announced on Thursday that FGCU men’s basketball assistant coach Leo Miller will assume the role of interim head coach during the search for the program’s next head coach.
“We are very appreciative of coach Miller assuming these additional duties and responsibilities,” said Kavanagh. “I have the utmost confidence that he is very capable of handling this assignment to assist us as we prep for the eventual hiring of a new coach as soon as possible.”
A high school coaching legend in Massachusetts, Miller has been an assistant on the FGCU sidelines for seven seasons. Miller coached 41 seasons (1962-2004) at Nauset Regional High School on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Over those 41 seasons, Miller’s Nauset Regional squad suffered just two losing seasons, while posting an outstanding 622-239 record.
Miller has been elected to both the Massachusetts and New England Basketball Hall of Fame and is one of just five coaches in the state to amass 600 or more victories. Among his many honors, Miller was appointed by the National Federation Coaches Association as the Northeast Coach of the Year and as the High School Coach designee to assist the East squad at the 1993 Summer Olympic Festival in San Antonio, Texas.
