Men's Basketball Signee Graf to Play in Jordan Brand Classic Regional Game
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – FGCU men’s basketball early signee DaJuan Graf (Charlotte, N.C./Phillip O. Berry Academy) will get a chance to continue his terrific senior season on Saturday, April 14, when he takes part in the Jordan Brand Classic Regional Game playing for the West Team at Time Warner Cable Arena. Jordan Brand, a division of NIKE, Inc., has announced the rosters for the Jordan Brand Classic’s Regional and National games.
Graf, a 6-foot point guard at Phillip O. Berry Academy, signed with the Eagles on the first day of the November early signing period, just two nights prior to the Blue and Green’s first game under head coach Andy Enfield. Graf will add to an FGCU club that welcomes back its top eight scorers from this year’s team that set a program record for Division I wins (15) and advanced all the way to the Atlantic Sun Tournament championship game.
Improving on his scoring average each season, Graf posted marks of 17.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 3.6 steals per game as a senior. Graf reached double figures in 25 of 26 games, including eight 20-point outings, to lead Phillip O. Berry Academy to an 18-8 record. State and Conference postseason awards have not been handed out in North Carolina, as Graf passed out six or more assists 10 times with two double-doubles.
Over his three-year career as the team’s floor general, Graf led the Cardinal to a 69-19 record and a pair of North Carolina Section 2A Championships (2010, 2011). He currently has a rating of 86 by ESPN.com, ranking him as the No. 44 point guard in the nation and the No. 16 prospect in the state of North Carolina.
As a junior in 2010-11, Graf averaged team-highs of 15.4 points, 3.7 assists and 2.7 steals per game en route to leading Phillip O. Berry Academy to a 27-3 record and its second straight N.C. Section 2A Championship. Graf was named the Rocky River Conference Player of the Year and an All-Western Region squad selection. His 15.4 points per game were fueled by 22 double figure outings and seven 20-point performances, including a career-high 36-point outing in the season opener against Garinger. A multi-faceted guard, Graf also averaged 4.5 rebounds, had three double-doubles, seven performances of six or more boards and reached the foul line 10 times in a game five occasions.
“I couldn’t be happier for DaJuan,” said first-year Phillip O. Berry Academy head coach Carlton Anthony back in November when DaJuan signed with FGCU. “He (DaJuan) is one of the best kids that I’ve ever had the privilege of coaching. As a point guard, he plays the game at a fast pace and possesses the ability to change direction with the ball in his hands. What really makes him special is his desire to play hard on both ends of the court.”
Graf’s starting point guard duties began his sophomore season when he led the Cardinals to a 24-8 mark and the first of his two Section 2A Championships. He burst onto the scene by averaging 13.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 3.1 steals per contest. Graf reached double figures in 25 of 32 games, scoring 20 or more points three times to go along with a trio of double-doubles.
This year’s Jordan Brand Classic tripleheader will begin with the International Game at 2:30 p.m. followed by the North Carolina Regional Game at 4:30 p.m. and the All-American Game at 7 p.m. on April 14. All of the rosters can be found on www.JordanBrandClassic.com.
