FORT MYERS, Fla. – Highlighted by freshman Brett Comer (Winter Park, Fla./Winter Park HS) leading the Atlantic Sun and finishing 28th in the country in assists per game (5.6), the FGCU men’s basketball ranked in top 50 in the country in three different statistical categories in the final NCAA rankings.

The Eagles ranked 32nd in the nation in steals per game (8.2), 39th in three-point field goals per game (7.8) and 49th in three-point percentage (37.4). FGCU ranked in the top three in the A-Sun in all three of the previously mentioned categories.

Comer is the first freshman to lead the A-Sun in assists since 2006-07, passing out a program Division I record 178 helpers on the year. The Winter Park, Fla. product led the team in assists in 29 of 32 games and also became the first A-Sun player with double-digit assists in four games leading to a pair of double-doubles. Comer passed out seven or more assists 11 times, highlighted by his 20-point and seven-assist performance in the A-Sun Tournament championship game. Third in the A-Sun in three-pointers per game, FGCU made 10+ threes in a game six times, including a run of four straight contests to close out the regular season. The Green and Blue finished with four players in the top 11 in the A-Sun in three-point percentage, led by freshman Filip Cvjeticanin’s (Zagreb, Croatia/American School of Madrid) 43 percent clip (56-130) that ranked second in the conference. Sophomore Christophe Varidel (Versoix, Switzerland/Worcester Academy) was fourth at 42 percent (60-143), Thompson was 10th at 38 percent (36-95) and junior Sherwood Brown’s (Orlando, Fla./Olympia HS) 37 percent mark (45-122) rounded out the quartet in 11th.
