@FGCU_MBB Adds Fourth National Broadcast; Game At USF To Air On ESPNU
DUNK CITY, Fla. – The FGCU men’s basketball team added a fourth national TV broadcast to its 2013-14 schedule when it was announced that its game at USF on Tuesday, Dec. 17, will be shown live on ESPNU.
The contest – which is part of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic – is scheduled for a 7 p.m. tip in Tampa.
The non-conference schedule was officially announced on Monday, and it originally included two national TV broadcasts. FGCU’s first appearance will be its season opener at Nebraska on Friday, Nov. 8, as that game will air on the Big Ten Network. Four days later, FGCU’s home opener – “Breakfast at the Beach” – versus Hartford on Tuesday, Nov. 12, will be on ESPN2 as part of the network’s 24-Hour Tip-Off Marathon at 7 a.m.
On Tuesday, it was revealed that the 2013 Atlantic Sun Championship rematch between FGCU and Mercer on Friday, Feb. 21, at Alico Arena had been picked up by ESPNU.
The meeting with USF will be the first between the two teams. The Bulls – who are entering their first season as a member of the American Athletic Conference (formerly the Big East) – are just two seasons removed from a pair of wins in the NCAA Tournament, advancing to the Third Round in 2012 when they went 22-14.
The game at USF is one of two road games (Dec. 19 at Mississippi State) that FGCU will play before heading to Orleans Arena in Las Vegas to complete the classic against Florida A&M and either Radford or Sacred Heart Dec. 22-23.
FGCU returns four starters from a team that won a program-record 26 games last year and became the first 15-seed to ever advance to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. Dunk City’s upsets of Georgetown and San Diego State earned the Eagles an ESPY award for “Best Upset” this past summer.
