FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s basketball program announced that Carlos Matos will join the program for the 2005-06 season.
The 5-foot-11 point guard graduated from Everglades High School in Miramar, Florida this past spring. Matos averaged 18 points and 8 assists per game for the Gators, a three-year old school in western Broward County. Matos was a third-team all-Broward selection for 2004-05 and a second team South Florida Sun-Sentinel 6A-5A-4A pick.
“Carlos is a hard-working, determined young man that will be a great addition to our program,” said assistant coach Marc Polite. “His persistence as a student and athlete is exactly the quality that we try to bring into our program every year. We are excited to have him and are looking for him to have a great career here at FGCU both athletically and academically."
Matos becomes the third newcomer to join a FGCU squad that lost eight seniors a year ago, joining junior transfer Beau Bauer, formerly of Indiana-Purdue at Fort Wayne and sophomore transfer Adam Liddell from Purdue.
