FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University men’s basketball team will start its season with the Shoot an Eagle 3 golf scramble on September 24.

Fans can play with the Eagles’ players, coaches and staff at the Stoneybrook Golf Course in Estero, where registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast. Tournament play, which is a scramble format, begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start and concludes with lunch and an awards ceremony. There are several competitions within the tournament, such as the standard long drive and closest-to-the-pin contests.

“This is a great opportunity for our student-athletes to meet with fans and supporters of our program and a great way to tip-off our season”, said Eagles head coach. “Bruce Harwood and his staff at Stoneybrook make this a fun event for everyone involved and we look forward to seeing our fans again.”

Teams will be comprised of four individuals plus one member from the 2005-06 FGCU men’s basketball team, coaching staff or athletic department. Each participant will have an opportunity to purchase a swing package that includes two mulligans, two raffle tickets and one entry in a putting contest.

Stoneybrook is a magnificent, 72-par championship golf course with a reputation for excellent greens and superb golf course conditions. It is one of only 200 courses nationwide to be certified "BEGINNER FRIENDLY" by the National Golf Course Owners Association. The course is located at the intersection of Corkscrew Road and Ben Hill Griffin Parkway in Estero.

Cost is $100 per player, $400 per team, and includes registration and meals. All participants are invited to a special meet and greet with the FGCU men’s basketball team, which includes nine newcomers this season, at a “Pairings Party” at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, September 24 at the Stoneybrook Resident Country Club.

Entry forms are available from the athletic department at Alico Arena on the campus of FGCU or the Stoneybrook Pro Shop. Proceeds for the event will go to support the men’s basketball program and the eight-team National Independent Tournament scheduled for Alico Arena in February.
