FORT MYERS, Fla., - Just two days after a thrilling 60-57 win in their first Division I game, the Eagles will entertain Drexel in their first Division I game in Alico Arena. Drexel is currently 2-0 and finished last season with a 23-9 record.
FGCU picked up a win in their first game as Division I member with their 60-57 win at Bethune-Cookman on Monday night. The Eagles used clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch to secure the three point road win. Casey Wohlleb (Boca Raton, Fla.) led the Eagles with 15 points on the night. Landon Adler (Decatur, Ind.) added 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Adam Liddell (Auburn, Ind.) chipped in 10 points.
Drexel is again one of the pre-season favorites to win the Colonial Athletic Association. The Dragons have advanced to the post-season four times in the last five years and are already off to a 2-0 start with wins over Navy and cross-town rival Penn. Senior center Frank Elgar is averaging 19.0 points per game and 12.5 rebounds while shooting 62.5% from the floor. Guards Tramayne Hwwthorne and Gerald Colds are averaging 18.5 and 14.0 points per game respectively. The duo has combined to shoot 15-for-30 from downtown.
This is the second meeting between FGCU and Drexel with the Dragons handing FGCU a 73-37 loss in Philadelphia, Pa., in the season opener for both teams last year.
Tomorrow night’s game can be seen live on ASun.TV and heard live on Sports Radio 770. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 239.590.7145 or by visiting www.fgcuathletics.com/tickets.
