Eagles Win Final Game of South Padre Island Invitational

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – Landon Adler (Decatur, Ind.) picked up his second double-double of the South Padre Island Invitational and was named to the All-Tournament Team after leading FGCU to a 71-58 win over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Saturday afternoon.

FGCU stormed out of the gates to a 9-0 lead, Adler scored a pair of buckets in the run after Terike Barrowes (Pompano Beach, Fla.) put FGCU on the board with a three-point play to begin the scoring. The Eagles continued to build on their lead, pushing the advantage to 20 on multiple occasions. The last coming on a slam by Adam Liddell (Auburn, Ind.) that put FGCU up 32-12 with 4:25 to play in the first half. FGCU took a 38-23 lead into the break.

UMES slowly began to climb back into the game and chipped away and sliced FGCU’s advantage to 42-32 with 14:56 to play. FGCU was able to retake a 14 point lead at 48-34 before a 12-0 Eastern Shore run narrowed FGCU’s lead to two with 8:25 to play. Adler then sunk a pair of free-throws and a three to put the Eagles back up by seven. FGCU then pulled away and was never threatened the rest of the way.

Ed Tyson led Maryland-Eastern Shore with 16 points and added four steals. Marc Davis and Denzel Jackson added 13 and 11 respectively.

Adler’s double-double with 17 points and 10 boards led a balanced FGCU attack that saw four players in double figures in scoring. Barrowes added his first double-double of the year with 11 points and 10 boards. Adam Liddell added 15 points and eight boards while Casey Wohlleb (Boca Raton, Fla.) added 12.

The Eagles conclude their 13-day, five-game road trip on Wednesday night when they take on the Arizona State Sun Devils in Tempe, Arizona.
