KENNESAW, Ga., - The FGCU men’s basketball team dropped their second straight road game with a 75-60 loss at Kennesaw State on Saturday night. With the loss, the Eagles fall to 9-18 overall and 5-8 in the A-Sun while Kennesaw State improves to 8-19 and 5-8 in the league.
After KSU scored the first four points, the Eagles went on a 13-2 run that started with a jumper by Terike Barrowes (Pompano Beach, Fla.) and saw five different Eagles score to put FGCU up 13-6 with 10:56 to play in the first half. KSU would trim the lead to 13-12 and Casey Wohlleb (Boca Raton, Fla.) answered with a jumper to give FGCU a 15-12 lead with 9:04 remaining. From that point, the Owls went on an 18-3 run that saw the hosts go 4-for-5 from outside and break the game open. The Owls would increase their lead to 20 before the Eagles would trim the deficit to 16 at 42-26 heading into the break.
FGCU opened the second half with a three from Wohlleb and would eventually get the lead to 12 on a short jumper by Wohlleb to trim KSU’s lead to 47-35 with 17:01 to play. However that would be as close as FGCU would come the rest of the way, going 0-for-6 over the next four minutes to allow the Owls to open up a 22 point lead. KSU would keep the lead near 20 the rest of the way before taking a 75-60 win.
For the Owls, Ronnell Wooten scored 20 points to lead four players in double figures. Shaun Stegall added 18 points and 12 boards while Kelvin McConnell chipped in 13 and J.D. Pollock scored 10 off the bench.
Casey Wohlleb scored 20 points to reach 1000 for his career at FGCU, becoming the second player to reach the plateau. Wohlleb now has 1016 for his career as an Eagle. Landon Adler (Dectur, Ind.) added 11 as the only other player to reach double figures for FGCU. Roman Narmbaye (Chad, Africa) pulled down nine boards and picked up five blocks in the loss.
The Eagles will be off until next Saturday when they travel to DeLand, Fla., to face Stetson at 3:30 pm in their final A-Sun road game of the year.
