FORT MYERS, Fla. - Dave Balza has announced the signing of two new student-athletes to the FGCU men’s basketball program. Derrick O’Neil and George Erkvania have both signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Eagles next season.

O’Neil is a 6-5 forward who is originally from Moreno Valley, Calif. He has attended Florida Community College at Jacksonville for the last two seasons. O’neil averaged 12.9 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.8 steals for FCCJ last season. He also shot 50.6 percent from the field.

“Derrick is a high-level player,” said Balza. “He has been one of my favorites since I met him last fall. He is a high-energy, high-flying athlete with great defensive skills who we can count on to be a major scorer for us over the next two years.”

George Erkvania started 15 games for Pensacola Junior College where he shot .480 from the floor. Erkvania will be a 6-9 junior next season.

“George comes from arguably the best junior college league in the country,” stated Balza. “He is a very intelligent young man who speaks four languages. On the court, George brings much needed size and experience against high-major players.”
