FORT MYERS, Fla. - FGCU Head Coach Dave Balza has announced the signing of Brett Williams, a 6-4 shooting guard from Hagerty High School in Oviedo.
“Brett is a tremendous addition to our program. He comes from a terrific High School team in Hagerty, coached by Josh Kohn and the Williams’ family is truly top notch,” said Balza. “Brett’s game speaks for itself. He is not only one of the best shooters in Florida, but one of the best our staff saw all summer from across the country. We are extremely excited to get him on campus next year.”
Williams averaged 14.4 points as a varsity freshman, 23.0 as a sophomore and 22.0 as a junior. He has made 236 three-point shots. Entering his senior season, Williams has already scored 1520 points, grabbed 403 rebounds and dished out 188 assists. Last season, he was named Class 5A Honorable Mention All-State and Second Team All-Seminole County.
Williams will join the team next season as a freshman. The Eagles have only one senior on the roster this season, Delvin Franklin.
The Eagles are entering their second year in the Atlantic Sun Conference and NCAA Division I. FGCU returns only one starter from last season, but brings in arguably the top recruiting class in school history. The Eagles open the season at defending national champion Kansas at 9:00 pm on ESPNU on Tuesday November 18. The Jayhawks enter the season as the #23rd ranked team in the country.
