Reggie Chambers scored 13 points for the Eagles Tuesday night
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Led by Theron Wilson’s 13 point, 12 rebound performance, the Bradley Braves narrowly escaped Alico Arena with a victory over FGCU, 58-54, during the second day of action in the O’Reilly Auto Parts College Basketball Experience Classic Fort Myers Subregional.
With Bradley leading 7-4, FGCU went on a 13-4 run, capped off by a Christian Wolf jumper. Derrick O’Neil and Reggie Chambers each tallied nine points and two steals in the first half for the Eagles. For Bradley, Theron Wilson led the way with nine points and six rebounds. The Eagles would take a 30-28 lead into the locker room.
In the second half, the Braves came out and dominated the opening minutes, starting the half on a 6-0 run. The Eagles would not go away, chipping away at the lead, and never letting Bradley open up a wide margin. The largest lead Bradley would hold was just 8 points. Reed Baker’s three with 3:01 remaining gave the Eagles their first lead in over 16 minutes, at 52-51. 30 seconds later Sam Maniscalco converted a three-point play on the other end to Bradley back in front by two, a lead they would not relinquish. A Reed Baker jumper with 1:04 remaining brought the Eagles to within two at 56-54. Bradley’s Maniscalco turned it over on the ensuing possession, giving FGCU an opportunity to tie or take the lead with less than 30 seconds left. Kyle Marks’ fadeaway jumper fell short, and the ball ended up in the hands of the Braves’ Will Egolf. Egolf was immediately fouled and hit both free throws, ending any hope of a comeback for the Eagles.
For Bradley (2-2), Theron Wilson poured in 13 points to go along with 12 rebounds. Sam Maniscalco also added 13 points and a team-high 3 assists. Will Egolf tallied 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks for the Braves.
For FGCU (1-3), Reggie Chambers led the way with 13 points. Reed Baker added 11 points, 4 rebounds, and a team-high 4 assists. Derrick O’Neil also had 11 points as well as 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Kyle Marks also reached double-figures with 11 points in addition to 6 rebounds.
The O’Reilly Auto Parts College Basketball Experience Classic wraps up tomorrow with a pair of games at Alico Arena. Richmond, who defeated UMKC earlier Monday, 85-74, will take on Bradley at approximately 5:00 PM, to be followed by FGCU taking on UMKC approximately 7:00 PM. Prior to the CBE games, the FGCU Women’s Basketball team will take on Santa Clara University at 3:00 PM.
